About Rancho Manriquez
We started breeding Andalusian and Fresian horses as a hobby. Carefully selected locally in California or from Spain, we take great pride in our breeding standards. We now have an impressive stock of magnificent horses.
On the same property we also have a palm tree nursery, CalCoast Palms. Also starting as a hobby, we now have thousands of plants to choose from. Check out our stock at CalCoastPalms.comContact Us
Andalucian horses, also known as the Pure Spanish Horse (Pura Raza Española), range in color from pure grey to a dark brown. The origins of the breed are the Iberian Peninsula, and they are one of the oldest breeds of horses, recognized as an individual breed since the 15th century.
They have long, thick manes and tails and were originally used for classical dressage, driving, bullfighting and as stock horses. they are elegant, strong built and known for their intelligence, sensitivity and obedience. When treated with respect they are quick to learn, responsive and cooperative.
The breed standard is heads of medium length with a straight or slightly arched profile. Necks are long and broad running to well-defined withers and a massive chest. Short back and broad.Mane and tail are thick and long but the legs do not have excess feathering.
Friesians originate in Friesland, Netherlands. During Middle Ages, ancestors of Friesian horses were in great demand as war horses throughout continental Europe. The breed nearly became extinct on more than one occasion, but fortunately the modern day Friesian horse is growing in numbers and popularity, used in both in harness and under saddle.
Typically they have a black coat, sometimes with a white star on the forehead. Long thick mane and tail, often wavy, and “feathers” long, silky hair on the lower legs. Breed is known for a brisk, high-stepping trot with a great presence and to carries itself with elegance. They are considered a willing, active, energetic horse who are gentle and obedient.
Fresians have a powerful overall conformation and bone structure with muscular bodies. They have long arched necks well chiseled, short ears and low-set tails.
